David Batchelor (* 1955 in Dundee ) ist ein schottischer Künstler und Schriftsteller.
Leben und Arbeiten
David Batchelor studierte Bildende Kunst am Trent Polytechnic in Nottingham (1975–188) und Kulturtheorie am Center for Contemporary Cultural Studies der Universität Birmingham (1978–80). Er hat viel in Großbritannien, Kontinentaleuropa, den Vereinigten Staaten und Lateinamerika ausgestellt; schrieb zwei Bücher, Minimalism (1997) und Chromophobia (2000), ist Herausgeber von Color (2008) und trug zu einer Reihe von Zeitschriften bei, darunter Artscribe , Frieze (Magazin) und Artforum . David war von 2002 bis 2005 Mitglied des Tate Britain Council, einem Beratungsgremium für Entwicklung und Programmierung an der Tate Britain .
Er hat Arbeiten international in vielen Ausstellungen gezeigt, darunter die British Art Show bei der SNGMA in Edinburgh , Tage wie diese: Tate Triennial of Contemporary Art an der Tate Britain , die 26. Biennale von São Paulo , Extreme Abstraction in der Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo , die Folkestone-Triennale in Folkestone und Farbkarte: Die Farbe neu erfinden, 1950 bis heute im Museum of Modern Art in New York City und in der Tate Liverpool .
David Batchelor hat farbenfrohe Lightbox-Installationen mit geborgenen Stücken aus den Straßen Londons gemacht. Batchelor nimmt Industrieabfälle - Wagen, Regale, Fabrikschrott - und verwandelt sie in Rahmen, in denen Neon-, Plexiglas- und Fundschilder untergebracht sind.
Zwei seiner Werke befinden sich in der Sammlung von Tate . Er ist der Bruder des buddhistischen Gelehrten und Autors Stephen Batchelor .
