A bit tidier[edit]

Hi Huangdan,

First of all, thanks for all the China-related stubs you've been creating. I think they're very useful.

I'd like to say, however (and please don't take this as criticism) that by being a tiny little bit more careful, the quality of the stubs would be greatly increased. I appreciate English is not your native language, but in my opinion this is not a problem for you to make the kind of contributions you are making. But please look at the following bits that could be improved easily:

For example, let's look at Zhongcun, Yanling. Five comments here:

  • "Township(simplified" there is no space between "Township" and "(simplified". It should be "Township (simplified"
  • "following areas:Zhong" no space after the colon. It should be " following areas: Zhong"
  • "Zhong Village,Longtan Village,Shendu Village," you need a space after your commas
  • "Zhong Village,Longtan Village,Shendu Village,Luofujiang Village,Daoren Village,Lianxi Village,Longping Village,Xintian Village,Meigang Village, and Jiutan Village" it would be very useful if you could identify the correct link for each of these villages (even if the articles doesn't exist yet and make links instead of just listing the names.
  • look at the bottom: "Template:Yanling County-geo-stub". You're using a template that doesn't exist. Either create the template or use a different template, but please don't leave it broken like that.

I think it would be very good if you could fix these 5 issues in all the articles you have already created, before you create more new articles. Otherwise, you are creating work for someone else, who is going to have to take all your articles and fix all these problems in a very tedious and time-consuming way. It's good to have new articles, but there must be a balance between quantity and quality.

So if you want to fix these errors in all your articles and let me know, I will be happy to take a look after to see if it's all fixed. And if you don't know how to fix any of these issues or you have any other questions, feel free to ask me. Cheers, Azylber (talk) 15:11, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do you read this page?[edit]

Hi, I left you some comments earlier on, have you seen them?

Also, you seem to be creating lots of articles about people whose notability looks a bit uncertain (at least to me).

Do you read this page?

Thanks, Azylber (talk) 22:21, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reminder. My native language is Chinese,my English is so so.If these people are not famous, they may not be famous in the United States, but the English wikipedia not only belongs to the United States,it belongs to the world,Such as:Zhang Ye (singer),English wikipedia didn't included she,but Spanish wikipedia and Català wikipedia included she, isn't she a celebrity?--Huangdan2060 (talk) 01:40, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply, but you haven't addressed my comments. I know you are Chinese and your native language is not English. What I'm trying to say to you is:

  • In the previous section I've pointed out to you many problems with the stubs you've created about places in China. I've also suggested a solution to you. What do you think of it?
  • "Famous" and "notable" is not the same. I suggest you read the notability policies before you continue creating lots of articles about people.

Please let me know what you think. I'll help you with what I can. Azylber (talk) 02:04, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I know what you mean: all punctuation should be a space behind (所有标点符号后面都要“空格”). For example:

  • Las Vegas /lɑːs ˈvɡəs/ is; not "Las Vegas/lɑːs ˈvɡəs/is"
  • in the 19th century). The city's; not "in the 19th century).The city's"
  • the city limits, especially; not "the city limits, especially"
  • Los Angeles Herald: Directors; not "Los Angeles Herald:Directors"
  • Galveston, Texas]]; Hot Springs, Arkansas; not "Galveston, Texas]];Hot Springs, Arkansas; "
  • there are many lawns, trees, and other greenery; not "there are many lawns, trees, and other greenery"
  • </ref> Las Vegas; not "</ref>Las Vegas"
  • meadows (vegas in Spanish); not "meadows(vegas in Spanish)"

--Huangdan2060 (talk) 02:55, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's right. Have you fixed all your articles? Azylber (talk) 01:01, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I will correct those errors.--Huangdan2060 (talk) 11:09, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

problems with your creations[edit]

Hi, I've asked you for this several times. Can you please make sure that all your creations:

  • are written in proper English
  • are formatted properly
  • don't contain errors or issues that other people will have to waste a lot of time fixing
  • have references
  • are notable

Also, as I've asked you before, could you please stop creating new pages until you've fixed all your existing ones?

Thanks, Azylber (talk) 18:31, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm correcting those errors. Recently, I wrote some articles were all senior officials of the Government of the People's Republic of China, for example: the Minister of Culture of the People's Republic of China.--Huangdan2060 (talk) 09:16, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of new articles[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. A page you recently created, Zhuyeping, Sangzhi, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new pages, so it will be removed shortly (if it hasn't been already). Please use the sandbox for any tests, and consider using the Article Wizard. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read Your first article. You may also want to read our introduction page to learn more about contributing.

Before creating new articles, please check whither there is an existing article for that subject. Zhuyeping, Sangzhi duplicates the 2007 article Zhuyeping. New articles must be notable. Several articles, such as Zhuyeping have beennominated for deletion.

Most townships in China are probably too minor to be worthy of an article on Wikipedia. Only a few townships are noteworthy and only those article should be created. Wikipedia is not a directory or a dictionary of place names (see WP:NOTDIR andWP:NOT#DICTIONARY) and does not need to have an article for every single place name in the world. The county, city or prefecture level articles provide sufficient information most about these towns and vilages.

Please read Wikipedia:Notability and take note of the section, "The common theme in the notability guidelines is that there must be verifiable, objective evidence that the subject has received significant attention from independent sources to support a claim of notability." and, "We require "significant coverage" in reliable sources so that we can actually write a whole article, rather than half a paragraph or a definition of that topic." Rincewind42 (talk) 17:10, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rincewind42, I am worried too about the notability of the articles created by Huangdan2060. He's been creating lots of articles about Chinese individuals whose notability is hard to establish. They are supported only by Chinese sources in Chinese and I have no way of verifying the reliability of these sources.
In addition to these notability issues, many of his creations are written in Chinglish and often also have style/format errors that he then copies and pastes across many articles, creating a lot of work for other people. He has been asked many times to fix his previous articles before creating new ones, but that hasn't happened. I wouldn't want to see other editors wasting a lot of time and energy picking up the mess, particularly if the subjects are not actually notable.
Cheers, Azylber (talk) 23:06, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have gone through just about every single article created by User:Huangdan2060 prior to December 2013 (excluding the townships and county articles) and given them a copy edit and clean up. I believe all the people articles pass notability. If we all produced FA class articles on the first draft it would rather spoil the idea of a collaboratively edited Wikipedia. The occasional grammar mistake is not much to fix. Rincewind42 (talk) 17:12, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The township articles have no problems with notability, since every populated place is considered notable a WP. Chinese sources are quite sufficient for them, and many tens of thousands of articles on places are supported only by sources in their local languages. And sources in any language are sufficient for any article whatsoever. I do not read Chinese, but many people at the English WP do, and they can be checked. We normally make the assumption that the sources support the article,u nless there is some reason to suppose otherwise. DGG ( talk ) 20:22, 5 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Correct method of using Chinese script within the English Wikipedia[edit]

I notice you have been writing allot of articles that cover Chinese subjects but have been writing Chinese script into the articles incorrectly. Please look at the manual of style at WP:MOS-ZH. When inserting Chinese script, it is best to use the {{zh}} template. Place the English words first and the Chinese translation imediately after in brackets. E.g. China ({{zh| s= 中国}}) which would render as China (Chinese: 中国). If you have to use the template more than once on a page, then add the attribute links=no to the end of the template text so that the text is not linked more than once per page. E.g. {{zh| s= 中国|links=no}} If you want to, you can alternatively use the {{lang}} template to markup Chinese text. This has no visual appearance but it is important that it is used. The page Template:Lang#Rationale explains why in detail.

-- Rincewind42 (talk) 15:17, 7 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please remember that the Character and are part of Chinese text, not used in English. There for they should be inside the lang template e.g. {{lang|zh-Hans-CN|《黄河东流去》}}.
When using cite templates, the language field only marks up the title. If you include Chinese text in the publisher or work field, then you need to mark it up using the lang template. Please fill out the location in English so use Beijing not 北京. Also, when adding dates in the cite template, please use the formats described at Wikipedia:MOS#Dates_and_time. Do not put Chinese characters 年,月,日 in the dates. Rincewind42 (talk) 06:27, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good job[edit]

I wanted to leave this note to say "Thank-you" to everything you have been doing here on Wikipedia. The place really needs more people like you, creating new articles for undercovered topics such as the ones you have been editing about. I hope you stay around.

By the way, a few suggestions for you:

  • Some of the people who have been implicated in corruption are not actually "politicians", but actually businesspeople serving state-owned enterprises (or in the case of Foreign ministry spokesperson, it is perhaps just better to introduce them with their current posts).
  • Tan Hong currently redirects to the article Tân Hồng District, I don't think this was your intention?
  • For officials implicated in 2012-3, if you can dig up information on their sentencing (trials) that would be helpful. Some of these people have already been sentenced to prison and serving out their terms.
  • Some of your edits are marked as "minor" when they are really not; some people filter out 'minor edits' on their watchlists so this could cause some unnecessary inconvenience. When you have time, just take a look at WP:MINOR for details on what constitutes a minor edit.

Hello, thanks for all your work recently. It's great reading these articles, and I enjoy doing the copy-editing. I know English is not your first language, but it is still a good thing that you are contributing! I hope you will continue contributing. Also I wanted to thank you for improving your articles over time. I want to ask you to fix some of the pages that you created earlier in the year, such as Mao Xiaobing. These pages usually contain too many references; you don't need to use multiple references to support the same facts, just one reference is often enough. Translation of PLA Air Force ranks[edit]

Hi Huang Dan, thanks for your prolific contributions on China-related topics. However, please note that the "jiang" rank of the PLA Air Force is usually translated as general, not air marshal (I've read quite a bit of US military publications on Chinese military personnel). See this NDU book, for example (start from p. 219). Cheers, -Zanhe (talk) 23:01, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Entered politics"[edit]

Hi, I wanted to continue thanking you for your work on China-related articles, but I wanted to mention to you that you should be careful using the phrase "entered politics", which seems to be your translation of the Chinese "参加工作". 参加工作 means this person entered the workforce, does not mean they took on any kind of political role. A tag has been placed on Category:President of the Central South University indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

Thoughts on template use and design[edit]

I have notived that you're makjign templates with a lot of wasted space. For example, the minister section in Template:1st State Council of China. It seems like overkill to give each minister a table row. A horizontal list like the following would be sufficient:

  • person_name (position_name)
  • nperson_name (position_name)

or

  • position_name person_name
  • position_name person_name

Also templates like Template:Chairmen_of_the_China_Securities_Regulatory_Commission seem redundant. The succession box (Template:S-start) with a link to office's article (which has the full list) handles the use case. - RovingPersonalityConstruct (talk, contribs) 15:37, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
